Physio-Led Exercise Programs Tailored To You
Pilates is a system of exercise that restores control and stability to your movements. Physiotherapists have long used the principles of low load, good form, and specific muscle activation in rehabilitation.
Pilates equipment offers endless opportunities to challenge the neuromuscular system for stability and to practice multidirectional movements in a graded fashion. With regular practice, your flexibility, balance, coordination, posture, and core strength will all improve.
Clinical Pilates and Exercise at Penrith Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy involves personalised exercise sessions tailored to improve your core strength, flexibility, and overall physical wellbeing.
We use various techniques including Pilates matwork, Pilates reformer, Pilates chair, and props such as bands, balls, rollers, and Pilates circles, supplemented with manual therapies where appropriate.
We offer 1:1 sessions or 1:2 sessions ( ie. for you and a friend).
Who Is Clinical Pilates Best Suited For?
Physio-led pilates can help in all of these situations:
- Perhaps you want to get strong but don’t like the idea of going to a gym
- You may have tried classes but find it hard to keep up.
- You may be pregnant or postpartum and want to avoid abdominal separation or prolapse/incontinence.
- You may currently be doing another form of exercise, but are plagued by injury.
- You may be recovering from surgery
- You may want to improve your sports performance.
- Perhaps you just need to keep up with your kids or grandkids.
Pilates is a good alternative for people who don’t like the scrutiny of a gym, the fast pace of a HITT class, noise or bright lights. We try to keep our instructions minimal and simple so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Why Pilates With A Physio?
Pilates sessions led by a physiotherapist offers unique advantages:
A one on one session allows us to look for movement faults and test the muscle activation strategies that work best for you. We can identify risk factors for recurrence so you can fix the problem once and for all.
Manual therapy can be combined with your exercise session when appropriate, for an even more effective result.
Physios are expertly trained in anatomy, injury diagnosis, movement analysis, and rehabilitation principles. We know when it is safe to move, how quickly to progress load and how far to stretch your range of movement. You will get individual advice and monitoring so your symptoms don’t get worse.
In a large group it can be hard to know if you are doing each exercise right. Physios are experts at movement. We can identify movement faults and help you change them.
We will help you activate the muscles that aren’t working properly. We can make the exercise relevant to your sport or problem activity. You will learn how to rest overloaded tissue and improve control and mobility in underused areas.
As your strength returns you will discover the joy of pain-free movement!
We can help you transition into a mainstream class if that is your goal. We recommend you start with individual sessions first.
If you are in a private health fund, the first assessment and planning session is covered by item 500. The 1:1 sessions are covered by item 505, and the 1:2 sessions are covered by item 595 or 560 if you are pregnant, or 596 or 560 if you are postpartum.
Each fund offers a different rebate amount, so check your rebate directly with your insurer.
You are not limited by a class timetable. We can book you into our diary at a time that suits you!
You can pay as you go, with a minimum commitment of 1 class at a time, but you will get a discount if you purchase a 5 or 10 session pack.
When you are ready to transition to a mainstream exercise class, whether pilates, the gym, or something altogether different, we can link you in with one of our community exercise partners!
How To Get Started
Book a ‘Pilates Exercise Assessment and Planning’ appointment with one of our physios first. This allows us to understand your problem, set goals, and be mindful of any precautions based on your medical and injury history.
You can pay by the session, or save money with a 5 or 10-lesson pack (terms and conditions apply). Check with your health fund to see what rebates apply. An individual session is coded item 505; a duet session (you and a friend) is coded item 560.
